Seventh Sense for Media and Art Production LLC invites photographers of all levels, from amateurs to professionals, to participate in the "Green Basra Photography Competition". This competition aims to showcase the inspiring initiatives taken by the local communities and citizens in Basra to combat water scarcity, desertification, pollution, and climate change. This event is funded by Mercy Hands organizations (Mercy Hands, Mercy Hands Europe and Mercy Hands America).

Capturing Local Initiatives for Climate Action.

Competition Details 

Basra, like many parts of Iraq, grapples with water scarcity, desertification, pollution, and climate challenges. Yet, its resilient communities and citizens have embarked on numerous initiatives to mitigate these impacts. We challenge you to capture one of these local initiatives.

 
Here are some examples of local climate action initiatives: rooftop gardens, wastewater recycling, waste recycling, drip irrigation, desalination of seawater, tree planting in desert areas, generating energy from solar or wind, hydroponic or aeroponic farming, and more. We would like you to take a photo of a similar climate action initiative designed and implemented by the people of Basra.

 

Eligibility

- Photographers aged 10 years and above are eligible to participate.

- All entries must be captured using a smartphone or professional camera. We will not accept AI-generated or heavily edited photographs.

Competition Judges

The judging panel will consist of three distinguished photographers and media experts affiliated with Seventh Sense for Media and Art Production. The judges will evaluate the submitted photographs and select the winning images unanimously.

Criteria for Selection of Winning Photographs

- The photographed initiative must fall under the category of climate action, meaning it should be a solution to counteract water scarcity, desertification, pollution, and/or climate changes. The more innovative the initiative is, the more likely the photograph will win.

- The photograph must be of high quality and clarity.

- The way the photograph was taken should capture the essence of the initiative and clearly describe the climate action, living up to the saying, "a picture is worth a thousand words".

How to Enter

Submit your top three photographs via email to info@7thsenseiq.com. Please use "Green Basra Photography Competition" as the subject line. The deadline for submissions is October 31, 2023.

Terms and Conditions

By submitting your photographs, you grant Seventh Sense for Media and Art Production LLC and Mercy Hands organizations permission to share them on social media platforms for promotional and informational purposes. Participants will be appropriately credited if their photographs are used.

 

Prizes

1st Place: 300,000 IQD

2nd Place: 200,000 IQD

3rd Place: 150,000 IQD

Winners will be revealed on our website and notified via email by November 15th, 2023.
